Scott, a single dad, lost his 15-year-old son Ben after a long illness. While Scott’s family showed sympathy at the funeral, they soon distanced themselves and stopped supporting him. Only Daniel, Ben’s best friend, stayed by their side throughout Ben’s treatments and after his passing.
Ben had asked his dad to give Daniel his college fund if something happened to him. After Ben’s death, Scott decided to honor that promise, despite objections from his own family who felt the money should stay “in the family.”
At a family dinner, Scott stood firm, pointing out that none of them were truly there for Ben during his illness — but Daniel was. He challenged his relatives to prove they remembered Ben’s last moments, which they could not.
Scott gave Daniel the college fund, believing Daniel deserved it for being the true friend and family when it mattered most. The family resented his decision, but Scott found peace in doing what was right and honoring his son’s wishes.
