Trump sparks major debate online after claiming ‘smart people’ don’t like him

Although Donald Trump has always been a contentious figure, his most recent remarks made at a speech have generated a great deal of discussion on social media.

Over the weekend, Donald Trump made some somewhat strange remarks when addressing guests at a gala at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Social media users are already discussing Trump’s brief address after seeing clips of it, and it’s simple to understand why.

The US president continued to discuss the terrible assassination of Charlie Kirk, although his remarks seemed a little out of place.

He thought about Tyler Robinson, the suspect the FBI named after he said that “smart people” disliked him. Amazingly, the audience started laughing after he said this.

Trump said: “Smart people don’t like me, you know? And they don’t like what we talk about.

“But he’s [Robinson] become radicalized, so many things have been learned about him so quickly, he’s become radicalized and crazy and it must have been traumatic because the parents are conservative people, supposed to be very nice people, living in Utah.

“The father turns in the son, boy that’s a tough deal.

“I actually asked somebody in the FBI how often does that happen, knowing even the guilt, that a father will turn in his son, or parents will turn in a son, and he said almost never.”

Kirk was slain on Wednesday, September 10, at Utah Valley University while giving a speech at an event hosted by his company, Turning Point USA. On Friday, September 12, the FBI said that they had taken into custody a suspect who was identified as Robinson, age 22.

Trump’s detractors seized on his remark about “smart people” and acknowledged that they don’t always agree with the president.

Others have pointed out that this seems disrespectful to his supporters.

One Twitter user wrote: “Did he just call MAGA dumb?! First time I believe what he actually said…”

Another said: “He can say anything, he knows it, MAGA will never accept they’ve been fooled.”

A third wrote: “Smart people generally don’t have much patience for those who are vacuous.”

With another adding: “This may be the first genuinely truthful and sensible thing he’s ever said. Wow.. he insulted his fanbase on spot lmao.”

And a fifth simply commenting: “Smart people recognized a snake oil salesman.”

With another simply mocking Trump supporters: “You would think his followers might take issue with that. Oh, wait, then they wouldn’t be his followers.”
