My brother and I are fraternal twins\u2014at least, that\u2019s what I believed for my entire life. Growing up, we were told we shared everything: a birthday, a childhood, a bond that only twins could understand. Recently, just for fun, we decided to take one of those DNA tests.<\/p>\n

We were curious about what similarities and differences we might have, since fraternal twins only share a portion of their genetics, like regular siblings. But when the results came in, they showed 0% genetic match. I stared at the screen, thinking it had to be some sort of glitch.<\/p>\n

Zero percent? That wasn\u2019t possible. Maybe we had mixed up the samples.Maybe something had gone wrong at the lab. So we took the test again, this time being extra careful. The second test came back the same.<\/p>\n

A mixture of fear\u2026 and guilt. Finally, my mom said quietly, \u201cThose tests aren\u2019t reliable. You shouldn\u2019t have taken them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her evasive answer only made my panic worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should know\u2026 Mrs. Anna\u2014your mother\u2014is listed for only one birth. She did not deliver twins.\u201d<\/p>\n

The room spun. I felt like the floor had disappeared beneath me. I rushed home, barely able to breathe, and confronted my mom.<\/p>\n

She broke down instantly. Through tears, she told me the truth they had hidden for my entire life. My mother is not my biological mother.<\/p>\n

And the boy I\u2019ve always called my twin\u2014my other half\u2014is not biologically related to me at all. I was born on the same day as him, in the same hospital. But my birth mother died during delivery.<\/p>\n

She was alone. No father listed. No family present.<\/p>\n

I was going to be placed for adoption immediately. My parents heard what happened. They couldn\u2019t bear the thought of a newborn left with no one in the world.<\/p>\n

So they took me home that very day\u2014raised me as their own\u2014and presented me as their son\u2019s fraternal twin so I would never feel different or abandoned. The truth shattered something inside me. Everything I believed\u2014my identity, my family, my place in the world\u2014suddenly felt unstable.<\/p>\n

I keep looking at these people I\u2019ve loved my whole life and wondering\u2026 Who am I now? I feel like a stranger in my own home. I\u2019m lost\u2014hurt, angry, and confused.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know how to move forward from this betrayal, even if it came from a place of love. If anyone has guidance\u2026 I desperately need it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
