Last night, while she was visiting him, she sent me a quiet text asking if I could pick her up. When I arrived, she walked to my car with her hood low and her backpack tightly held.<\/p>\n

She got in without a word, and the silence felt heavier than the evening air around us. After a moment, she softly asked, \u201cCan we just go home?\u201d\u2014not upset, just worn out. I didn\u2019t ask questions; I simply nodded and began driving away from the curb.<\/p>\n
