When my neighbors, Gary and Brenda, dumped their rotting Halloween leftovers on my lawn, I decided it was time for some payback after years of their petty antics.
I’ve always loved Halloween, decorating my yard with spooky decor. This year, I went all out, even creating a haunted maze. Of course, Gary and Brenda, who’ve complained about everything from my lights to my dog, took issue with my decorations.
After Halloween, I planned to clean up, but I was hit with a foul smell one morning. I found a pile of their rotten pumpkins and a note that read, “Enjoy cleaning it up, since you love decorating so much!” Furious, I marched over to confront Gary, who shrugged off my anger and claimed they were just helping me with my “spooky junk.”
That night, I hatched a plan. I collected all the rotten decorations and returned them to Gary and Brenda’s yard, arranging them in grotesque poses and leaving a note: “Thought I’d help with your cleanup. Happy belated Halloween!”
Three days later, Brenda called me in a panic, claiming I’d ruined their lives and that the HOA was threatening to evict them due to a rat infestation caused by my decorations. I relished the irony as I informed her I had security footage of them dumping their trash on my lawn first.
Despite her pleas, I refused to help. The HOA had already been dealing with their property neglect and pest complaints, and they faced fines for their issues, not mine.
On their last day in the neighborhood, I watched as they packed up, looking defeated. I felt a moment of guilt, but then remembered their smugness. They got exactly what they deserved. Next year, I planned to go even bigger for Halloween.
